- Jakarta got Independence in 1945 from Dutch East India Company.
- Before being named Jakarta it had been called Sunda, Kelapa, Jayakarta, Djakarta and Batavia.
- The name Jakarta comes from the word Jayakarta which in Old Javanese means “complete victory” or a “victorious deed."
- The Dutch conquered Indonesia for their spices which influenced their own cuisine and gave rise to the Indo Dutch Cuisine.
